Festival packing list for a day visit or camping

Pack the essentials for a festival day, then add sleeping gear and shared equipment only if you are camping. Check the organiser's rules before travelling.

Start with your ticket, phone, payment method, essential medication, weather-appropriate clothing and a bag to carry them. Add sleeping gear and toiletries if you are staying overnight. Divide shared items among your group. Finally, check the organiser's current rules on bags, food, drinks, camping and equipment.

Packing list for any festival visit

  • Ticket or admission pass, preferably also available offline
  • Phone, charger and payment method
  • Essential medication and anything you need to take it
  • Comfortable shoes and clothes suitable for walking and standing
  • Rain layer or warm top according to the forecast
  • Sun protection and earplugs if you will spend a long time outside or near loud music
  • A small bag if the organiser permits one

Before leaving, check whether you need identification, a named ticket or a particular entrance. Save the details you may need if your phone battery or connection fails. Only bring your own bottle or snacks if the festival permits them.

Travelling with children calls for a different plan. The guide to festivals with children covers admission, breaks, hearing protection and the journey home.

Add these for an overnight stay

  • Tent and every part needed to pitch it
  • Sleeping mat or mattress, sleeping bag and perhaps a pillow
  • Dry spare clothes, extra socks and a bag for wet items
  • Toothbrush, toiletries, towel and toilet paper as needed
  • Torch or headlamp
  • Power bank and the cables you actually use
  • Earplugs and perhaps an eye mask if sleep is a priority

Choose sleeping gear for the expected temperature and the space you can carry. Keep items that need to stay dry inside bags within your luggage. A tent is only useful if its poles, pegs and other necessary parts are there. Try pitching it at home if it is new to you.

The festival camping guide helps with camping type, access and arrival. Roskilde Festival 2027 and Bork Festival 2027 are examples of individual edition pages where you can begin checking details. Follow the organiser's current information for any rule that affects what you pack.

Assign shared equipment before packing

If you camp together, agree who brings the tent, pump, shared lighting and other communal gear. Put one person's name next to each item. That reduces duplicate luggage and the risk of everyone assuming someone else has packed it.

Large furniture, gazebos, gas equipment and cooking require an extra check of the festival rules. Do not plan a camp kitchen or buy bulky gear until you know what is allowed and how you will carry it both ways.

Pack for the journey as well as the campsite

You need to carry your luggage from your transport to the entrance and on to your camp. Prioritise what you cannot do without. Keep your ticket, phone, medication and rain layer within easy reach.

Before closing your bag, check your ticket, the forecast, your trip home, the organiser's entry rules and who carries shared items. Remove optional gear if its weight makes the journey difficult.
